111FIRST competition is to challenge teams of students and their mentors to solve a common problem in a six-week time slot. Using a standard box of parts and a common set of rules the team must build a robot and enter the robot in a series of competitions designed by the FIRST organization. FIRST Robotics defines many different ways of winning for students. The teams are presented with awards for excellence in design, demonstrated team spirit, gracious professionalism and maturity, and the ability to overcome obstacles they face while building and operating the robot.
